Step 3. what is sustainability?

It all began at the first Earth Summit in Rio 1992, where the concept of ‘sustainable development’ was first coined. It means;

“Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." – Bruntland Report for the World Commission on Environment and Development (1992)

Sustainability isn’t just to do with nature, (even though it plays a huge role) – it’s actually made up of three parts; Social, Economic and Environmental pillars. When we shop from small businesses, we help sustain local economy, which in turn helps to socially sustain the livelihood of those small business owners. When we buy organic products, we help to sustain the environment as they biodegrade back into Earth matter, which works to preserve nature for another generation to enjoy. At Urban Sustained we believe that treating all people with respect, creates social sustainability, which is the most powerful way to protect the Earth. When we stand by each other and support the work of good people, we can help them make changes to the Earth, for the better.

Step 4. What can You do?

You’re the most important person of all! Without you being fully on-board, there will always be one too many people who aren’t striving for the sustainable life. The choices you make are important and make a huge difference in the world.
